Cold winter deserts of Turan (Kazakhstan) is part of the Tentative list of Kazakhstan in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Cold winter deserts of Turan is a serial trans-national nomination (with Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) with four locations in Kazakhstan featuring desert in temperate climates with arid cold winter climate. Three locations are in the Barsakelmes state reserve, one was an island in the Aral Sea, before it dried, the second is represents the dried seafloor and the third a unique wetland of the remains of the Aral Sea, protected by a dam. The fourth location is the Altyn-Emel national park further east, which is also considered as an individual TWHS.
