Codrul secular Slatiora (foret seculaire) is part of the Tentative list of Romania in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List. This site (or parts of it) has already been inscribed under Primeval Beech Forests WHS.
The Slătioara secular forest is a protected area on the southeastern slope of the Rarău massif.
